Evacuation Route Planning

Evacuation route planning is the engineering process of identifying and organizing safe, efficient paths for people to leave an area threatened by hazards such as fires, floods, or industrial accidents. It combines hazard assessment with maps, transportation networks, population distribution, and route-capacity analysis to select paths that reduce exposure, congestion, and travel time. Engineers can model alternative scenarios, assign evacuation zones, and coordinate traffic controls, shelters, and emergency communications. Effective plans improve preparedness and response by supporting rapid, orderly movement under changing conditions and helping communities, facilities, and transportation systems reduce risks during emergencies.
