Glass Tube Viscometer

A glass tube viscometer is a laboratory instrument that measures a fluid’s viscosity, or resistance to flow, by observing how long a liquid moves through a calibrated glass capillary. In operation, the sample is drawn above a reference mark and allowed to flow under gravity between marked points; its travel time, together with the instrument’s calibration and controlled temperature, indicates kinematic or dynamic viscosity. This simple method supports characterization and quality control of oils, solvents, polymers, and other engineering fluids. Results help assess flow behavior, select materials, design fluid systems, and monitor manufacturing consistency.

The Looking Glass Self

2025

The concept of the looking-glass self describes how an individual's self-concept is shaped by their perception of how others see them. This psychological theory, first introduced by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, posits that self-identity emerges in a social context and is influenced by the judgments—real or imagined—of others.Research suggests that individuals frequently overestimate how positively others perceive them. This is particularly evident in physical self-perception,...

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...

The uterine or fallopian tubes function as the conduit through which oocytes travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Each fallopian tube measures approximately 10 to 13 cm long and is anatomically divided into the infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and interstitial part (or intramural segment). The infundibulum is characterized by its funnel shape and features extensions called fimbriae which reach towards the peritoneal cavity. These fimbriae play a critical role during ovulation as they extend...
