Glove Box Procedure

A glove box procedure is a controlled method for handling materials inside a sealed enclosure, protecting samples from air, moisture, or hazardous contamination while protecting users from exposure. The operator works through attached gloves as the chamber maintains a dry or inert atmosphere by sealing the workspace, purging it with gases such as nitrogen or argon, and monitoring oxygen and moisture levels. In engineering research, this procedure supports the preparation and testing of air-sensitive chemicals, batteries, electronic materials, and other reactive components. Consistent transfer, handling, and decontamination practices improve reproducibility, preserve material performance, and promote safe laboratory operations.

2025

The Edgeworth Box, introduced by Francis Edgeworth, is a graphical tool used to analyze the efficient allocation of resources between two entities, such as consumers or producers. It focuses on the distribution of two goods between two individuals within a controlled framework, offering insights into exchange efficiency and market equilibrium. The box's dimensions are determined by the total quantities of the two goods being analyzed. For instance, if two individuals, Jamie and Morgan, share 12...

Black Box Model

2024

The Black Box Model of Consumer Behavior conceptualizes the decision-making process as a "black box" where inputs (stimuli) lead to outputs (responses) without fully revealing the internal cognitive processes. It emphasizes the mystery of the consumer's mind and focuses on observable external factors and responses. The model includes external stimuli (marketing efforts, social influences), the consumer's black box (psychological factors, perception, and attitudes), and the resulting behavioral...

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Mice and rats account for a large proportion of the animals used in biomedical research. Ensuring their welfare is both an ethical responsibility and essential for scientific validity. There are general procedures that apply to the majority of these mice and rats, but some of the animals, such as the immunocompromised ones, require additional steps to be taken to sustain them for...

Preventing colonization of bird nest boxes by invasive Africanized honey bees is important for conservation efforts of nest-site limited birds. We provide an integrated pest management approach to "push" bees away from nest boxes with a repellant insecticide, permethrin, and "pull" them toward pheromone baited swarm traps.

Here, we present an overview of the preparation and animal handling procedures required to safely perform medical imaging in an animal biosafety level 4 laboratory. Computed tomography of a mock-infected guinea pig illustrates these procedures that may be used to evaluate the disease caused by a high consequence pathogen.
