Ion Temperature Measurement

Ion temperature measurement is the determination of the thermal energy associated with ions in a plasma, a key parameter for evaluating plasma behavior, energy transport, and performance. Because ion temperature reflects the ions’ velocity distribution, diagnostics commonly infer it from Doppler broadening of emitted spectral lines, whose width depends on ion mass and thermal motion, or from energy-resolved particle measurements. These methods support the characterization of fusion plasmas, electric propulsion systems, plasma processing equipment, and industrial discharges. Reliable measurements help engineers assess heating efficiency, confinement, stability, and interactions between charged particles and surrounding materials.

Transporters in cell membranes allow differential segregation of ions across cell membranes or cell layers and play crucial roles during tissue physiology, repair and pathology. We describe the ion-selective self-referencing microelectrode that allows the measurement of specific ion fluxes at single cells and tissues in vivo.

A thermometer measures body temperature. The common sites for measuring body temperature are the oral cavity, axillary region, temporal artery, and skin surface, such as the forehead, abdomen, and axilla. True core body temperature is assessed in the rectum, tympanic membrane, pulmonary artery, esophagus, and urinary bladder. Oral: When assessing oral temperature, the thermometer tip should be placed under the tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket. It offers accurate readings and can be...
