Nonlinear System Linearization

Nonlinear system linearization is a modeling method that approximates a nonlinear dynamical system with a linear model near a selected operating point, making engineering behavior easier to analyze. Around an equilibrium or steady-state condition, the method uses a first-order Taylor expansion and its Jacobian matrix to relate small changes in system inputs and states to corresponding output changes while neglecting higher-order terms. Engineers use linearized models to assess local stability, design feedback controllers, simplify simulations, and predict responses to small disturbances in mechanical, electrical, and aerospace systems. Accuracy decreases as the system moves farther from the chosen operating point.

Nonlinear Pharmacokinetics: Causes of Nonlinearity

2025

Nonlinearity in drug pharmacokinetics is caused by various factors influencing how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted. Understanding these nonlinear processes is crucial for predicting drug behavior in the body and optimizing drug dosing regimens. Nonlinear drug absorption can occur when the process is rate-limited by solubility, carrier-mediated transport systems, or saturation of the presystemic gut wall or hepatic metabolism. For instance, high doses of riboflavin...

Saturable and reverse saturable scattering were discovered in isolated plasmonic particles and adopted as a novel non-bleaching contrast method in super-resolution microscopy. Here the experimental procedures of detecting and extracting nonlinear scattering are explained in detail, as well as how to enhance resolution with the aid of saturated excitation microscopy.

Introduction to Nonlinear Inequalities

Linear and nonlinear inequalities are fundamental for analyzing variable relationships and identifying ranges satisfying specific conditions. A linear inequality involves variables raised only to the first power, resulting in a straight-line graph. This line partitions the coordinate plane into two distinct regions: one that satisfies the inequality and one that does not. Each region represents a set of solutions where the linear relationship holds true under the specified constraint.Nonlinear...

A nonlinear inequality describes a comparison involving an expression that curves or behaves more complexly than a straight line. These inequalities often appear in forms that include squares, products, or variables in the denominator. To solve such an inequality, one starts by rewriting it so that zero appears on one side. For example, the inequality: can be factored as: This form makes it easier to identify the values that cause the expression to equal zero. In this case, the key values are 3...

The accuracy and sensitivity of protein determination by the rapid and convenient Bradford assay is compromised by intrinsic nonlinearity. We show a simple linearization procedure that greatly increases the accuracy, improves the sensitivity of the assay about 10-fold, and significantly reduces interference by detergents.
