Oled Fabrication

OLED fabrication is the engineering process of building organic light-emitting diode devices that produce light from electrically stimulated organic materials. Manufacturers typically deposit and pattern organic semiconductor layers between electrodes on a substrate, then apply an electrical bias that injects electrons and holes; their recombination releases energy as visible light. Fabrication also requires careful control of layer thickness, alignment, interfaces, encapsulation, and environmental exposure because moisture and oxygen can degrade organic materials. These processes support thin, lightweight, flexible, and high-contrast displays for smartphones, televisions, wearable devices, and emerging optoelectronic systems, while advancing research in materials engineering and scalable manufacturing.

The fabrication of electrically addressable, high-aspect-ratio (> 1000:1) metal nanowires separated by gaps of single nanometers using either sacrificial layers of aluminum and silver or self-assembled monolayers as templates is described. These nanogap structures are fabricated without a clean room or any photo- or electron-beam lithographic processes by a form of edge lithography known as nanoskiving.
