Sawing Grooves

Sawing grooves is a machining operation that removes material to form a narrow channel, slot, or recess in a workpiece, supporting accurate assembly and functional design in engineering. A toothed saw blade advances along a defined path while its cutting edges shear and separate material; groove width and depth depend on blade geometry, cutting speed, feed rate, and workpiece properties. Engineers use sawn grooves for keyways, joints, clearance features, and routing channels in wood, plastics, and metals. Controlling alignment, cutting conditions, and debris removal improves dimensional accuracy, surface quality, tool life, and process safety.

Surgical Technique for the Implantation of a Biomimetic Artificial Intervertebral Disc in a Goat Animal Model

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Source: Laboratories of Nicholaus Noles and Judith Danovitch—University of Louisville It might be possible for the human brain to keep track of each individual person, place, or thing encountered, but that would be a very inefficient use of time and cognitive resources. Instead, humans develop categories. Categories are mental representations of real things that can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, individuals can use the perceptual features of animals to place them into a given...

Terahertz Microfluidic Sensing Using a Parallel-plate Waveguide Sensor

The procedure for implementing a refractive index sensor for terahertz frequencies based on a grooved parallel-plate waveguide geometry is described here. The method yields a measurement of the refractive index of a small volume of liquid through monitoring of the shift in the resonant frequency of the waveguide...
