Similar Triangles

Similar triangles are geometric figures with the same shape, meaning their corresponding angles are equal and their corresponding side lengths share a constant ratio. This relationship allows engineers to determine unknown dimensions by establishing proportions between matched sides, even when the triangles differ in size. Similar triangles support indirect measurement, scale modeling, surveying, structural analysis, and technical drawing, where direct access to a length may be difficult or impossible. By applying angle relationships and proportional reasoning, engineers can estimate heights, distances, and component dimensions while preserving geometric accuracy across designs and scaled representations.

Trigonometry of Right Triangles

2025

In a right triangle, trigonometric functions establish specific ratios that describe the relationship between the lengths of the triangle's sides and its acute angles. These relationships are foundational in understanding the structure of right-angled geometry. The sine function quantifies the proportion of the side opposite a given angle compared to the triangle's hypotenuse. In contrast, the cosine function expresses how the side adjacent to the angle relates to the hypotenuse in terms of...

Binomial Expansion Using Pascal's Triangle

2025

Expanding a binomial expression such as (a + b)n results in a predictable sequence of terms that can be systematically derived using Pascal’s Triangle. This triangular array of numbers plays a central role in understanding and computing the coefficients of binomial expansions.Pascal’s Triangle is constructed such that each row corresponds to the coefficients of a binomial raised to a power. The topmost row, known as the zeroth row, corresponds to (a + b)0, and each successive row gives the...

2014

Elastin-like polypeptides are stimulus-responsive biopolymers with applications ranging from recombinant protein purification to drug delivery. This protocol describes the purification and characterization of elastin-like polypeptides and their peptide or protein fusions from Escherichia coli using their lower critical solution temperature phase transition behavior as a simple alternative to chromatography.

This manuscript describes a protocol for determining whether exposure to ozone, a criteria air pollutant, impairs alveolar macrophage efferocytosis in vivo. This protocol utilizes commonly used reagents and techniques and can be adapted to multiple models of pulmonary injury to determine effects on alveolar macrophage efferocytosis.
