Geographical Diversification

Geographical diversification is an investment strategy that spreads capital across countries or regions to reduce reliance on any single economy, market, or political system. It works by combining assets whose returns may respond differently to regional business cycles, interest rates, currencies, regulations, and geopolitical conditions, which can moderate portfolio-specific risks even when one market underperforms. In finance, investors use geographical diversification across equities, bonds, real estate, and other assets to broaden opportunity sets and manage volatility. Effective implementation requires considering currency exposure, international transaction costs, market access, tax rules, and correlations among regional investments.
