Peptide Recognition

Peptide recognition is the selective identification and binding of a peptide by a protein, receptor, antibody, or other molecular partner, a process that helps translate amino acid sequence into biological function. Specificity arises when peptide sequence, three-dimensional shape, charge, and chemical groups complement a binding site through noncovalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic contacts. In genetics, studying peptide recognition helps reveal how mutations alter protein interactions, signaling, and antigen presentation, including the binding of peptide fragments to major histocompatibility complex molecules. These principles support research in molecular genetics, disease mechanisms, immunology, biomarker development, and therapeutic design.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California The autonomic nervous system (ANS) controls the activity of the body's internal organs and regulates changes in their activity depending on the current environment. The vagus nerve, which innervates many of the internal organs, is an important part of the system. When our brain senses danger, vagal tone is inhibited, leading to a set of changes in the body designed to make us more prepared to fight or...

A Peptide Microarray Technology for Specificity Profiling of Antibodies

2025

This video demonstrates a technique that applies peptide microarray technology to profile the specificity of antibodies recognizing post-translational modifications (PTMs) on histone peptides. A microarray slide containing immobilized fluorophore-conjugated histone peptides with known PTM combinations is treated with target PTM-specific antibodies. This process helps identify the antibody's specificity for the target and its potential cross-reactivity with non-target PTMs.

Revenue Recognition

The revenue recognition principle is a central guideline in accrual accounting that dictates when revenue should be recorded in financial statements. It requires that revenue be recognized when a company satisfies a performance obligation, meaning when it has delivered goods or completed services as agreed in a contract, regardless of when the customer pays. This principle ensures that income is reported in the accounting period in which it is actually earned, providing a more accurate...
