Brain Tissue Touch Impression

Brain tissue touch impression is a microscopy-based sampling technique that transfers material from a freshly cut brain surface onto a glass slide for rapid examination. Gentle contact preserves representative cells, inflammatory material, and, when present, infectious organisms or their associated changes, which can then be visualized using appropriate stains or immunologic labeling. In immunology and infection research, this method provides a fast view of cellular responses and possible pathogen involvement in nervous tissue, complementing tissue sections, culture, molecular assays, and other diagnostic approaches. Its simplicity can support preliminary assessment of neuroinflammation and infection while helping guide more detailed analyses.

Impression management encompasses individuals' deliberate efforts to shape how others perceive them during social interactions. This behavior is often employed to conform to social norms, secure approval, or pursue specific goals. While it involves selective self-presentation, it is not necessarily deceptive; individuals frequently present authentic aspects of themselves that align with situational demands.Common strategies include:Ingratiation: where individuals use flattery or agreeableness...

Responses to Gravity and Touch

Gravitropism: Plant Responses to Gravity Higher plants sense gravity using statocytes, cells found near the vascular tissue in shoots, and in the root cap columella in roots. Statocytes contain starch-filled organelles called statoliths. The statoliths settle, or sediment, at the bottom of the statocyte in the direction of gravity. Statolith sedimentation triggers a signaling cascade, resulting in the asymmetrical distribution of the plant hormone auxin across root and shoot tips. This...

In this video, we demonstrate the sectioning of a frozen mouse brain tumor tissue using a cryostat. The frozen brain tissue sections so obtained are stored at low temperatures until further analysis.

Impression Management Techniques IV: Altercasting

2025

Altercasting is a strategic communication technique in which an individual imposes a specific identity or social role onto another person to influence their behavior and shape the interaction. By presuming a role—such as “responsible leader” or “patient person”—altercasting encourages the target to conform to that identity, often aligning their behavior with the expectations associated with the role. The power of this tactic lies in its subtlety; once a role is assigned, it becomes socially...
