Rapid Molecular Testing

Rapid molecular testing comprises diagnostic methods that detect pathogen-specific genetic material quickly, enabling timely identification of infections and supporting clinical decision-making. These assays typically extract DNA or RNA from a patient specimen, amplify selected sequences through polymerase chain reaction or isothermal amplification, and generate a signal through fluorescent probes or related detection systems. In immunology and infection research, rapid molecular testing helps distinguish active infection from immune responses, identify difficult-to-culture organisms, and monitor transmission. Its speed and analytical specificity can guide treatment, infection-control measures, and outbreak surveillance, although results depend on specimen quality, target selection, and assay performance.

We describe a rapid, molecular-based Influenza A and B assay. The Influenza assay detects each target within 15 min by employing isothermal amplification with influenza-specific primers followed by target detection with molecular beacon probes. The Influenza A and B assay is user-friendly and required minimal hands-on time to perform.

Molecular Cloning

2023

Molecular cloning is a set of methods, which are used to insert recombinant DNA into a vector - a carrier of DNA molecules that will replicate recombinant DNA fragments in host organisms. The DNA fragment, which may be a gene, can be isolated from a prokaryotic or eukaryotic specimen. Following isolation of the fragment of interest, or insert, both the vector and insert must be cut with restriction enzymes and purified. The purified pieces are joined together though a technique called...
