Rational Number Conversion

Rational number conversion is the process of expressing a number that can be written as a ratio of integers in an equivalent form, such as a fraction, decimal, percentage, or ratio. The conversion preserves the value by applying operations such as dividing the numerator by the denominator to obtain a decimal, multiplying a fraction by 100 to obtain a percentage, or simplifying equivalent numerator-denominator pairs. These skills help students compare quantities, interpret data, solve equations, and communicate mathematical relationships across different representations. Accurate conversion also supports work with proportions, measurement, probability, and algebraic models.

Other than maintaining genome stability via DNA repair, homologous recombination plays an important role in diversifying the genome. In fact, the recombination of sequences forms the molecular basis of genomic evolution. Random and non-random permutations of genomic sequences create a library of new amalgamated sequences. These newly formed genomes can determine the fitness and survival of cells. In bacteria, homologous and non-homologous types of recombination lead to the evolution of new...

Using Your Head: Measuring Infants' Rational Imitation of Actions

Source: Laboratories of Judith Danovitch and Nicholaus Noles—University of Louisville One of the main challenges of infancy is to learn how to achieve one’s goals in the world, whether they are to pick up a toy or to express desires to another person, and one of the most powerful tools in this learning process is imitation. However, imitation is not always as simple as copying other people’s actions; it is also necessary to realize that goals and intentions guide behavior. The world is a...

Rational numbers are numbers that can be expressed as the quotient of two integers. A number is rational if it can be written in the form p/q, where p and q are integers and q ≠ 0. The denominator cannot be zero because division by zero is undefined. Fractions such as ¾ and −⅝ are examples of rational numbers.Every rational number can also be represented as a decimal. Its decimal form either terminates or repeats a pattern of digits.A terminating decimal has a finite number of digits after the...

A rational function is expressed as the ratio of two polynomials, with the restriction that the denominator cannot equal zero. Rational functions describe situations involving division, such as rates, concentrations, and average costs. In manufacturing, they can show how production volume affects the average cost per unit.Consider a company that manufactures reusable water bottles. It has a fixed production cost of $2,000 and a variable cost of $8 per bottle. The average cost per bottle is...
