Age-synchronized Eggs

Age-synchronized eggs are eggs or early embryos collected and maintained so that they share a defined developmental age, enabling reliable comparisons between samples. Researchers achieve synchronization by controlling when eggs are collected, recording the time elapsed after fertilization or deposition, and maintaining specimens under consistent environmental conditions so development proceeds on a comparable schedule. This approach reduces variation caused by differences in developmental stage and supports analysis of embryonic development, gene activity, cellular changes, and responses to experimental treatments. In medicine and biomedical research, age-synchronized eggs can improve reproducibility in studies of development, disease mechanisms, reproductive biology, and potential therapeutic effects.

AC Synchronous Machine Synchronization

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous generators are the main source of electrical power worldwide. They require a prime mover and an exciter in order to generate power. The prime mover can be a turbine spun by fluid (gas or liquid), thus the sources of the fluid can be water running off a dam through a long nozzle, steam from water evaporated using burned coal, etc. Most power plants including coal,...

Measurement of Survival Time in Brachionus Rotifers: Synchronization of Maternal Conditions

Rotifers are microscopic zooplankton used as models in ecotoxicological and aging studies. Here we provide a protocol for powerful and reproducible measurement of survival time in Brachionus rotifers. Synchronization of culture conditions over several generations is of particular importance because maternal condition affects life history of offspring.

The easiness of maintaining and propagating the nematode C. elegans make it a nice model organism to work with. The possibility of synchronizing worms allows the work with a significant amount of subjects at the same developmental stage, what facilitates the study of one particular process in many animals.

An Introduction to Aging and Regeneration

2023

Tissues are maintained through a balance of cellular aging and regeneration. Aging refers to the gradual loss of cellular function, and regeneration is the repair of damaged tissue generally mediated by preexisting adult or somatic stem cells. Scientists are interested in understanding the biological mechanisms behind these two complex processes. By doing so, researchers may be able to use somatic stem cells to treat degenerative diseases and develop therapies that could delay the effects of...
