Coil Embolization

Coil embolization is a minimally invasive endovascular technique that intentionally blocks blood flow within a vessel or vascular lesion, most commonly to treat intracranial aneurysms. During the procedure, clinicians guide a catheter through the vascular system under imaging and release soft metal coils at the target site; the coils promote local blood clot formation and create a durable occlusion. This approach can prevent aneurysm rupture, control internal bleeding, and reduce blood flow to selected vascular malformations or tumors. By offering a targeted alternative to open surgery, coil embolization has become an important tool in interventional medicine and neurovascular care.

Myocardial infarction (MI) animal models that emulate the natural process of the disease in humans are crucial to understanding pathophysiological mechanisms and testing the safety and efficacy of new emergent therapies. Here, we describe an MI swine model created by deploying a percutaneous embolization coil.

Combination of High Ligation and Intraoperative Embolization Using Polidocanol for Treatment of Varicoceles

2023

To reduce the postoperative recurrence rate of varicocelectomy, we combined high ligation of varicocele with intraoperative embolization. We injected polidocanol from the spermatic vein during surgery to embolize the branches of the spermatic vein and collateral veins. This is an alternative surgical method for the treatment of varicocele.
