Cone Beam Ct

Cone beam CT (CBCT) is an X-ray imaging method that produces three-dimensional views of anatomical structures, supporting detailed assessment when conventional two-dimensional images are insufficient. During scanning, a cone-shaped X-ray beam and flat-panel detector rotate around the patient, capturing multiple projection images that computer algorithms reconstruct into a volumetric dataset. In medicine, CBCT supports dental and maxillofacial imaging, orthopedic evaluation, surgical planning, and image-guided procedures. Its high spatial resolution and flexible multiplanar visualization can improve structural analysis while often using less radiation than conventional CT for targeted examinations, although exposure depends on the protocol and body region.

Source: Alycia G. Berman, James A. Schaber, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana Here we will demonstrate the fundamentals of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging using mice. The technique involves injecting a radionuclide into a mouse, imaging the animal after it is distributed throughout the body, and then reconstructing the produced images to create a volumetric dataset. This can...
