Fluoroscopy Roadmap

Fluoroscopy is a medical imaging technique that uses continuous or pulsed X-rays to produce real-time images of internal structures, guiding diagnosis and treatment. During an examination, an X-ray system, often configured as a C-arm, projects radiation through the patient while a detector converts transmitted signals into a live display; contrast agents may improve visualization of blood vessels, organs, or moving anatomy. A fluoroscopy roadmap organizes the principles, equipment, image-guided procedures, and radiation-safety practices needed to understand this modality. Its applications include gastrointestinal studies, angiography, orthopedic interventions, and minimally invasive procedures, where real-time guidance can improve precision and clinical decision-making.

Dual fluoroscopy accurately captures in vivo dynamic motion of human joints, which can be visualized relative to reconstructed anatomy (e.g., arthrokinematics). Herein, a detailed protocol to quantify hip arthrokinematics during weight-bearing activities of daily living is presented, including the integration of dual fluoroscopy with traditional skin marker motion capture.

Surgery is the gold standard for accessible arteriovenious malformations (AVMs), and pre-operative embolization can simplify this procedure. We describe our approach for staged endovascular embolization and open resection of AVMs, and provide a representative clinical example highlighting the advantages of a comprehensively trained neurovascular surgeon leading a multi-disciplinary clinical team.

Surgical Technique for the Implantation of a Biomimetic Artificial Intervertebral Disc in a Goat Animal Model

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.
