Rest Period

Rest period is a planned interval of reduced physical or cognitive activity used to support recovery from illness, injury, treatment, or exertion. By lowering physiological demand, rest can help conserve energy, limit stress on affected tissues, and provide time for healing processes and symptom monitoring, while the appropriate duration depends on the condition and clinical guidance. In medicine, rest periods may be incorporated into rehabilitation, postoperative care, management of acute symptoms, and structured activity plans, where they are balanced with safe movement to reduce deconditioning. Understanding when and how to rest helps clinicians tailor recovery, evaluate progress, and support a gradual return to normal function.

The Resting Membrane Potential

2019

Overview The relative difference in electrical charge, or voltage, between the inside and the outside of a cell membrane, is called the membrane potential. It is generated by differences in permeability of the membrane to various ions and the concentrations of these ions across the membrane. The Inside of a Neuron Is More Negative The membrane potential of a cell can be measured by inserting a microelectrode into a cell and comparing the charge to a reference electrode in the extracellular...

Resting Potential Decay

2024

The resting membrane potential of a neuron (-70mV) is sustained due to the selective ion permeability of the membrane. At the resting potential, the membrane is slightly permeable to ions like sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl−) and highly permeable to potassium ions (K+). Differences in the ions' concentration inside the cell compared to the outside are maintained by membrane transport proteins like channels and pumps. At rest, the K+ is the main ion that moves across the membrane through...

Periodic Classification of the Elements

2020

The periodic table arranges atoms based on increasing atomic number so that elements with the same chemical properties recur periodically. When their electron configurations are added to the table, a periodic recurrence of similar electron configurations in the outer shells of these elements is observed. Because they are in the outer shells of an atom, valence electrons play the most important role in chemical reactions. The outer electrons have the highest energy of the electrons in an atom...

Periodicity Concept

2025

The periodicity concept, also known as the time-period assumption, is a fundamental accounting principle that allows a business's indefinite life to be segmented into specific, uniform intervals for financial reporting. These intervals, typically defined as months, quarters, or fiscal years, form the basis for preparing timely and comparable financial statements. The application of this concept enables stakeholders to monitor financial performance, assess trends, and make informed decisions...
