Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a medical specialty focused on preventing, diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating injuries and health conditions related to physical activity, exercise, and athletic performance. It combines clinical assessment with knowledge of biomechanics, exercise physiology, musculoskeletal function, and safe training principles to identify injury mechanisms, guide recovery, and reduce the risk of recurrence. Sports medicine supports athletes and physically active people across all levels, while also applying exercise-based strategies to promote health and manage chronic conditions. Its multidisciplinary approach connects physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other professionals in patient-centered care.

Objectively Assessing Sports Concussion Utilizing Visual Evoked Potentials

2021

A portable system capable of measuring steady-state visual-evoked potentials was developed and trialed on 65 amateur rugby players over 18 weeks to investigate SSVEP as a potential electrophysiological biomarker for concussion. Players' baselines were measured pre-season, with retesting for reliability, concussion, and recovery assessment being conducted within controlled time-periods, respectively.

Here, we present the preparation of an er-xian decoction (EXD) in four steps—soaking, decoction, filtration, and concentration—and demonstrate the administration of a prepared EXD-containing serum to rats. These methods are applicable to the in vivo and in vitro study of herbal decoctions such as traditional Chinese medicines.
