System Usability

System usability is the degree to which a system enables its intended users to achieve goals effectively, efficiently, and satisfactorily within a specific context of use. It is assessed by observing representative users perform relevant tasks and analyzing measures such as completion rates, time, errors, learnability, and reported satisfaction, often alongside expert review or usability testing. In medicine, usability evaluation helps improve electronic health records, clinical decision-support tools, medical devices, and patient portals by revealing workflow barriers and interaction problems. Better usability can reduce cognitive burden, support accurate task performance, and strengthen patient safety and adoption of health technologies.

The Nitrogen Cycle

2019

Nitrogen atoms, present in all proteins and DNA, are recycled between abiotic and biotic components of the ecosystem. However, the primary form of nitrogen on Earth is nitrogen gas, which cannot be used by most animals and plants. Thus, nitrogen gas must first be converted into a usable form by nitrogen-fixing bacteria before it can be cycled through other living organisms. The use of nitrogen-containing fertilizers and animal waste products in human agriculture has greatly influenced the...
