Varicocele Prevalence

Varicocele prevalence refers to the proportion of males in a defined population who have a varicocele, an abnormal enlargement of veins in the scrotum that can affect reproductive health. These dilated veins arise when impaired venous drainage or reflux increases pressure within the pampiniform plexus, and estimates vary according to age, fertility status, examination method, and whether ultrasound is used. Measuring prevalence helps clinicians interpret scrotal findings, assess possible links with impaired semen production or testicular growth, and identify populations that may benefit from further evaluation. Reliable prevalence data also support epidemiological studies and guide research into diagnosis and treatment.

2025

In statistical epidemiology and health sciences, two essential metrics—prevalence and incidence—are fundamental for understanding disease dynamics within a population. These measures enable public health officials, epidemiologists, and researchers to assess the burden of diseases, allocate resources effectively, and design impactful public health policies and interventions. Prevalence indicates the proportion of individuals in a population who have a specific disease or health condition at a...

Microscopic Varicocelectomy under Local Anesthesia as the Treatment of Varicocele

2024

Varicocele accounts for 35%-40% of infertility cases among men of reproductive age. The international standard treatment method is microscopic varicocelectomy, typically performed under general anesthesia. This study proposes and implements microscopic varicocelectomy under local anesthesia, which provides more humane care for patients and reduces the economic burden.

Combination of High Ligation and Intraoperative Embolization Using Polidocanol for Treatment of Varicoceles

2023

To reduce the postoperative recurrence rate of varicocelectomy, we combined high ligation of varicocele with intraoperative embolization. We injected polidocanol from the spermatic vein during surgery to embolize the branches of the spermatic vein and collateral veins. This is an alternative surgical method for the treatment of varicocele.

Combined Supine and Standing Imaging for Varicocele: An Improved Diagnostic Approach

Varicocele relies heavily on angiographic diagnostic techniques for disease-related examination and assessment. In order to diagnose varicocele better, we combined supine and standing positions for varicocele imaging, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound is used for patients with inconspicuous reflux. This approach facilitates the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of varicocele.

Transcutaneous Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for Treating Varicocele-Induced Scrotal Pain

This protocol outlines the use of transcutaneous neuromuscular electrical stimulation for treating varicocele-induced scrotal pain. It compares visual analog scale (VAS) scores and imaging changes before and after treatment to assess effectiveness. Results indicate that patients experienced improved scrotal pain symptoms following the treatment.
