Visual Acuity

Visual acuity is the ability to distinguish fine spatial detail, typically assessed by identifying standardized letters or symbols at a specified viewing distance. It depends on the eye’s optical focus, retinal photoreceptor sampling, and neural processing, so blurred or distorted images reduce the smallest resolvable detail. Clinicians use tests such as Snellen or logMAR charts to measure each eye separately and with corrective lenses when appropriate, helping detect refractive error and screen for conditions including amblyopia, cataract, retinal disease, and optic nerve dysfunction. In medicine, visual acuity provides a reproducible baseline for diagnosis, monitoring treatment response, and documenting changes in visual function.

The present research demonstrates a method to accurately examine dynamic visual acuity (DVA) in myopic subjects with eyeglass correction. Further analysis indicated that the closer the refraction state to emmetropia, the better the eyeglass-corrected binocular DVA is at both 40 and 80 degrees per second.
