Brinkman Board Test

The Brinkman Board Test is a behavioral assay that measures skilled forelimb function and coordinated reaching in laboratory animals, making it useful for evaluating motor-system changes. During the task, an animal retrieves food rewards through openings in a board, requiring precise paw placement, grasping, visuomotor coordination, and motor planning; progressively challenging positions can reveal asymmetries or impaired dexterity. Researchers use the test in preclinical neuroscience to assess forelimb deficits after brain injury or neurological disease and to quantify recovery during rehabilitation or experimental treatment. Its performance-based measurements complement histological and molecular analyses of neural damage and repair.

Introduction to the Power Pole Board

2023

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC/DC converters are power electronic converters that convert DC voltages and currents from a certain level to another level. Typically, voltage conversion is the main purpose of DC/DC converters and three main types of conversion exist in a single converter: stepping up, stepping down, and stepping up or down. Among the most common step-up converters are boost converters (Refer to this collections...

2014

Body segmental inertial properties are required for inverse dynamics modeling. Using an oscillation and reaction board technique, inertial properties of below-knee prostheses were measured. Using direct measures of prosthesis inertia in the inverse dynamics model of the prosthetic leg resulted in lower magnitudes of resultant joint forces and moments.

This protocol describes the modified hole board, which is a behavioral test set-up that comprises the characteristics of an open field and a traditional hole board. This set-up enables the differential analysis of unconditioned behavior of small laboratory mammals as well as the analysis of cognitive abilities.

As manual dexterity is a prerogative mainly of primates, behavioral tasks have been developed in macaque monkeys. Four reach and grasp prehension tasks, measuring hand manipulation ability and force, allow to establish functional recovery after a lesion of the central nervous system and to test the effect of a treatment.
