Coiled Lead Wires

Coiled lead wires are flexible electrical conductors designed to transmit signals while accommodating movement, making them valuable components in neuroscience recording and stimulation systems. Their helical structure can stretch, compress, and bend more readily than straight wires, reducing mechanical tension and limiting forces transferred to implanted electrodes or surrounding tissue. In neural interfaces, coiled leads connect electrodes to amplifiers, stimulators, or recording hardware while helping maintain stable contact during animal or patient movement. This design supports long-term electrophysiology, neural stimulation, and brain-computer interface research by improving flexibility, reducing signal disruptions caused by motion, and potentially increasing the durability of implanted systems.

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Hot-wire anemometers have a very short time-response, which makes them ideal to measure rapidly fluctuating phenomena such as turbulent flows. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the use of hot-wire anemometry.

The H1 deep transcranial magnetic stimulation coil is FDA-cleared for the treatment of depression. We demonstrate how to utilize the H1 for other conditions, such as auditory hallucinations and PTSD, by moving the helmet to different locations over the subject's skull.

Magnetic Field Due To A Thin Straight Wire

Consider an infinitely long straight wire carrying a current I. The magnetic field at point P at a distance a from the origin can be calculated using the Biot-Savart law. Consider a current element dx at a distance x from the origin. The current element makes an angle θ with the line joining dx and P. Using the Pythagorus theorum to express the distance between the current element and the point, the magnetic field due to the current element at point P can be estimated using Equation 1. The...

Household Wiring And Electrical Safety

Companies that supply power to most modern households use three conductors, typically called a three-wire line. While one is neutral, the other two are both at 120 V but with opposite polarity, giving a voltage of 240 V between them. With a three-wire line, high-power appliances that require 240 V, such as electric stoves and clothes dryers, are linked between the two hot lines. 120 V appliances can be connected between the neutral and either of the hot lines. The neutral side, which is always...
