Draining Vein Identification

Draining vein identification is the process of locating veins that carry blood away from specific brain regions, a key step in interpreting cerebral vascular anatomy and neuroimaging signals. It uses anatomical or functional imaging, including magnetic resonance techniques and angiography, to trace venous pathways, distinguish draining vessels from nearby arteries, and relate blood-flow patterns to their tissue sources. In neuroscience, this information helps determine how vascular drainage influences blood-oxygen-level-dependent signals and the spatial accuracy of functional MRI. It also supports studies of cerebrovascular organization, brain tumors, vascular malformations, and surgical planning by clarifying venous connections and potential drainage risks.

This video demonstrates the surgical isolation procedure of the inguinal draining lymph node from a mouse model. Incision of the abdominal region provides access to the inguinal lymph node, which is surgically harvested. The harvested translucent inguinal lymph node can be used for immunological studies.

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.

Using Point of Care Ultrasound to Augment Acquisition of Physical Exam Skills: Veins and Arteries

Source: Joseph H. Donroe, Rachel Liu; Yale School of Medicine, USA Vascular diseases make up most cases of emergency hospitalization and carry a high mortality risk. Point-of-care ultrasound or POCUS enables accurate diagnosis of these diseases and shortens the time between detection of the cause and selection of appropriate treatment strategies, thus, reducing the patient mortality rate. POCUS offers a safe, low-cost, and less invasive bedside tool for examining arteries and veins, besides its...

A Dissection Method to Harvest Murine Popliteal Draining Lymph Nodes for Ex Vivo Imaging

This video demonstrates a dissection technique to harvest popliteal draining lymph nodes from the mouse hind legs. Lymph nodes play a critical role in bridging innate and adaptive immunity, and harvesting intact lymph nodes — with a preserved tissue structure and cellular viability — can help study local and systemic immune responses.

Veins

2024

Veins are an integral part of our circulatory system, serving as the blood vessels that transport blood from all body regions to the heart. They are a network of hollow tubes that carry blood low in oxygen from the body's cells back to the heart for reoxygenation. Veins are crucial for maintaining the body's overall fluid balance and the continuous circulation of blood. Structure of Veins: The structure of veins is specifically designed to assist in the low-pressure transportation of blood...
