Dura Pia Incision

Dura pia incision is a neurosurgical technique that opens the dura mater and pia mater, the protective membranes surrounding and closely covering the brain, to provide controlled access to cortical tissue. Using microsurgical instruments, the operator separates or cuts these layers while minimizing deformation, bleeding, and injury to the underlying cortex, often under magnification. In neuroscience, this approach supports procedures such as cortical exposure, electrode or probe placement, tissue sampling, and experimental manipulation of brain regions. Careful incision and membrane management improve access while preserving the structural and physiological conditions needed for reliable observation and measurement.

Investigating the Origins of Sensory Neurons in the Dura Mater Using Fluorescence Microscopy

2025

Source: Wang, J., et al. Visualizing the Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Immunoreactive Innervation of the Rat Cranial Dura Mater with Immunofluorescence and Neural Tracing. J. Vis. Exp. (2021). This video demonstrates a method to trace the origins of sensory neurons in the dura mater using fluorescence microscopy. A retrograde tracer is introduced into the exposed dura mater of an anesthetized rat. The tracer is taken up by sensory neuronal axons and travels retrogradely to their cell bodies...

Metacarpal Small Incision for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

2024

Carpal tunnel decompression with transverse carpal ligament transection is a very successful treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. The standard long-curved incision technique has become the best treatment for median nerve entrapment decompression. Here we introduce the metacarpal small incision carpal tunnel release (MSICTR) in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

Whole Mount Preparation of Mouse Intestine: Using a Simple Gut-incising Device to Prepare Whole Mount

2023

In this video, we demonstrate whole mount preparation of the mouse intestine using a simple gut-incising device. The resulting mounts are of superior and uniform quality and can be used for histological analyses.

Ye's Swing Technique for Small-incision Lenticule Extraction Surgery

2025

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.

Surgical Robot-Assisted Transanal Specimen Extraction Radical Sigmoidectomy Without an Auxiliary Abdominal Incision

2025

Robot-assisted natural orifice specimen extraction surgery is a minimally invasive technique that combines robotic precision with natural orifice specimen extraction. A 67-year-old patient successfully underwent the procedure in 290 min, with minimal bleeding and no residual cancer. This approach minimized abdominal trauma, reduced complications, and enabled a quick recovery.
