Silver Wire

Silver wire is a highly conductive metal filament used to create electrical contacts and electrodes, making it valuable for measuring or delivering bioelectric signals in neuroscience. For stable recordings, its surface is often converted to silver chloride, forming an Ag/AgCl interface where reversible oxidation-reduction reactions transfer ionic signals in tissue into electronic currents while limiting polarization. Silver wire electrodes can serve as recording, reference, or stimulation contacts in preparations ranging from isolated neural tissue to living systems. Their low electrical resistance, simple construction, and compatibility with saline environments support electrophysiology experiments involving neural activity, signal quality, and circuit function.

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Hot-wire anemometers have a very short time-response, which makes them ideal to measure rapidly fluctuating phenomena such as turbulent flows. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the use of hot-wire anemometry.

Femtosecond-laser direct-writing is frequently used to create three-dimensional (3D) patterns in polymers and glasses. However, patterning metals in 3D remains a challenge. We describe a method for fabricating silver nanostructures embedded inside a polymer matrix using a femtosecond laser centered at 800 nm.
