Circulating Water Loop

A circulating water loop is a closed or recirculating system in which water moves continuously through connected components to transport heat, fluids, or dissolved substances. A pump or pressure difference drives flow through pipes, while valves and changes in pipe geometry regulate velocity and direction; as water passes heat exchangers or other devices, energy transfers between the water and surrounding materials, and the returning fluid completes the cycle. In physics, circulating water loops provide a practical model for conservation of mass, pressure-driven flow, convection, and thermal equilibrium. They are used to study fluid dynamics and manage temperature in laboratory and engineering systems.

We developed a method to detect Phytophthora capsici zoospores in water sources using a filter paper DNA extraction method coupled with a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay that can be analyzed in the field or in the lab.

Catheterization of Intestinal Loops in Ruminants

We describe a novel surgical method for catheterizing 'intestinal loops' within the ileum of sheep. Once animals have recovered from surgery and have cleared antibiotics and analgesics, multiple treatments can be deposited directly in loops via the catheters.

This study presents a detailed experimental procedure to measure looping dynamics of double-stranded DNA using single-molecule Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET). The protocol also describes how to extract the looping probability density called the J factor.

Fetal Circulation

2024

Fetal circulation is a unique system that facilitates the exchange of gases, nutrients, and waste products between the developing fetus and the mother. This intricate process takes place through a special organ called the placenta. Two umbilical arteries transport blood from the fetus to the placenta. At the placenta, the blood absorbs oxygen and nutrients while simultaneously eliminating waste products. This oxygen-enriched and nutrient-rich blood then returns to the fetus through one...
