Field Visualization

Field visualization is the graphical representation of how a physical quantity varies across space, making abstract fields such as electric, magnetic, gravitational, or fluid-velocity fields easier to interpret. It works by mapping field values to visual elements, including arrows that show vector direction and magnitude, contour lines that connect equal values, and color scales that encode scalar intensity. In physics, these representations help reveal spatial patterns, sources, sinks, gradients, and regions of strong interaction. Researchers and students use field visualization to analyze simulations, interpret experimental measurements, test theoretical models, and communicate complex behavior in areas ranging from electromagnetism to fluid dynamics.

Driving Simulation in the Clinic: Testing Visual Exploratory Behavior in Daily Life Activities in Patients with Visual Field Defects

2012

Patients with visual deficits after stroke report about different constraints in daily life most likely due to variable compensatory strategies, which are difficult to differentiate in clinical routine. We present a clinical set-up which allows measurement of different compensatory head- and eye-movement-strategies and evaluating their effects on driving performance.

Topographical Estimation of Visual Population Receptive Fields by fMRI

It is important to obtain unbiased estimates of visual population receptive fields (pRFs) by functional magnetic resonance imaging. We use mild regularization constraints to estimate pRF topography without a-priori assumptions about pRF shape, allowing us to choose specific pRF models post-hoc. This is particularly advantageous in subjects with visual-pathway lesions.

Visualizing Efficacy of Pesticides Against Disease Vector Mosquitoes in the Field

2019

The efficacy of public health pesticides targeting nuisance and disease-vector insects is not uniform across different ecological zones. Here we present a system of techniques using captive vector insects as sentinels for pesticide efficacy to derive electronic maps supporting the standard evaluation of pesticides across multiple environments.

Central and Divided Visual Field Presentation of Emotional Images to Measure Hemispheric Differences in Motivated Attention

2017

This study compared central versus divided visual field presentations of emotional images to assess differences in motivated attention between the two hemispheres. The late positive potential (LPP) was recorded using electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potentials (ERPs) methodologies to assess motivated attention.
