Leakage Flux

Leakage flux is the portion of magnetic flux produced by a source that does not follow the intended magnetic path or link all relevant parts of a magnetic circuit. In transformers, imperfect core coupling and the physical separation of primary and secondary windings allow some field lines to pass through surrounding air instead of linking both windings, producing leakage inductance and voltage drops under load. Studying leakage flux helps explain transformer regulation, energy losses, electromagnetic interference, and deviations from ideal circuit models. Engineers manage it through core design, winding arrangement, magnetic shielding, and controlled leakage inductance in applications such as power conversion and current-limiting transformers.

2025

This video discusses the fluorescence leakage assay to study the interactions of cell-penetrating peptides with cell membranes using cell membrane mimics — large unilamellar vesicles, or LUVs, encapsulated with a fluorescent dye and a quencher.

Measurements of CO2 Fluxes at Non-Ideal Eddy Covariance Sites

2019

The presented protocol uses the eddy covariance method at non-typical locations, applicable to all types of short-canopy ecosystems with limited area, on a currently reforested windthrow site in Poland. Details of measuring site setup rules, flux calculations and quality control, and final result analysis, are described.

Electric Flux

The concept of flux describes how much of something goes through a given area. More formally, it is the dot product of a vector field within an area. For a better understanding, consider an open rectangular surface with a small area that is placed in a uniform electric field. The larger the area, the more field lines go through it and, hence, the greater the flux; similarly, the stronger the electric field (represented by a greater density of lines), the greater the flux. On the other hand, if...
