Quasi Static Assumption

The quasi-static assumption is an idealization in physics that treats a changing system as passing through a continuous sequence of equilibrium states. It applies when external conditions vary much more slowly than the system’s internal relaxation processes, allowing properties such as pressure, temperature, and volume to remain well defined at each stage. This approximation simplifies the analysis of thermodynamic processes, including compression, expansion, and heat transfer, and helps derive work from pressure–volume changes. Although no real process is perfectly quasi-static, the assumption provides a useful benchmark for understanding reversible behavior and identifying when nonequilibrium effects become important.

The Small x Assumption

2020

If a reaction has a small equilibrium constant, the equilibrium position favors the reactants. In such reactions, a negligible change in concentration may occur if the initial concentrations of reactants are high and the Kc value is small. In such circumstances, the equilibrium concentration is approximately equal to its initial concentration. This estimation can be used to simplify the equilibrium calculations by assuming that some equilibrium concentrations are equal to the initial...

2023

This protocol describes the study of the quasi-static compression performance of corrugated tapered tubes using finite element simulations. The influence of the thickness gradient on the compression performance was investigated. The results show that proper thickness gradient design can change the deformation mode and significantly improve the energy absorption performance of the tubes.

The manuscript describes a method of phonon-assisted quasi-resonant fluorescence spectroscopy that incorporates both laser-limited resolution and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. This method utilizes optical phonons to provide linewidth-limited resolution spectra of atom-like semiconductor structures in the energy domain. The method is also easily realized with a single spectrometer optical spectroscopy setup.

Assumptions of Survival Analysis

2025

Survival models analyze the time until one or more events occur, such as death in biological organisms or failure in mechanical systems. These models are widely used across fields like medicine, biology, engineering, and public health to study time-to-event phenomena. To ensure accurate results, survival analysis relies on key assumptions and careful study design. Survival Times Are Positively Skewed Survival times often exhibit positive skewness, unlike the normal distribution assumed in...
