Frontal Lobe Damage

Frontal lobe damage is injury or dysfunction affecting the brain region involved in executive control, voluntary movement, speech, and aspects of personality and social behavior. Its effects arise when disrupted neural circuits impair processes such as planning, attention, working memory, decision-making, impulse control, or motor coordination, with symptoms varying according to the location and severity of the injury. In psychology and neuropsychology, studying frontal lobe damage helps connect brain systems with behavior, guide cognitive and behavioral assessment, and inform rehabilitation strategies. Clinical observations also provide insight into how the frontal lobes support adaptive behavior, emotional regulation, and goal-directed action.

Here, we present a protocol to describe the epilepsy outcome and complications of 8 patients with mild malformation of cortical development with oligodendroglial hyperplasia in epilepsy (MOGHE) in the frontal lobe after frontal disconnection. The procedure is characterized by its simplicity, user-friendliness, and fewer postoperative complications.

The present work provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for manually tracing the medial temporal lobe (MTL) structures. This protocol can be applied to research involving structural and/or combined structural-functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations of the MTL, in both healthy and clinical groups.
