Race Preference Assessment

Race Preference Assessment is a psychological method for examining whether people show different preferences, evaluations, or choices toward individuals associated with different racial groups. In a structured task, participants may select, rate, or respond to standardized images or descriptions, allowing researchers to compare response patterns across racial categories and distinguish consistent preferences from chance variation. These assessments help investigate the development and expression of racial attitudes, including how social learning, cultural context, and personal experience may shape judgments. Findings can inform research on prejudice, identity development, intergroup relations, and interventions designed to reduce bias, while emphasizing that results reflect measured responses rather than fixed traits.

2023

This video describes a feeding assay for fruit flies in which colored food is used to monitor feeding and the effect added compounds may have on feeding activity. The example protocol tests the effects of several endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC).

RACE - Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends

2021

Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends, or RACE, is one of the most effective methods to obtain a full-length cDNA from an mRNA sequence between a known internal region to the unknown sequence at the 5’ or 3’ end. The unknown region is cloned in the cDNA by a gene-specific primer that binds the known end, and a hybrid primer that attaches a predefined anchor sequence to the unknown end of the cDNA. The sequence in between is amplified by PCR with an anchor primer and a gene-specific primer. Since the...

This paper presents a protocol for the investigation of social transmission of food preference in mice. The advantages and possible applications for this procedure, for instance, in detecting early changes in AD mouse models, are highlighted. To conclude, interpretation of the results in light of critical details are discussed.

A fundamental aspect of assessing the welfare of animals in captivity is to ask whether the animals have what they want. Here, we present a protocol to determine housing preference in the zebrafish (Danio rerio) with respect to the presence/absence of environmental enrichment and access to flowing of water.
