Teddy Bear Modification

Teddy Bear Modification is a play-based psychological technique in which children alter a teddy bear’s appearance or features to express perceptions, emotions, identity, or relationships. By choosing materials and making concrete changes, a child can externalize internal experiences through a tangible object, while accompanying conversation reveals the meanings behind those choices. In psychology, this activity may strengthen rapport, encourage emotional expression, and support qualitative assessment when direct verbal self-report is difficult. Researchers and clinicians should interpret responses in light of developmental level and cultural context, using the technique alongside validated measures and other sources of psychological information.

Histone Modification

2020

The histone proteins have a flexible N-terminal tail extending out from the nucleosome. These histone tails are often subjected to post-translational modifications such as acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination. Particular combinations of these modifications form “histone codes” that influence the chromatin folding and tissue-specific gene expression. Acetylation The enzyme histone acetyltransferase adds acetyl group to the histones. Another enzyme, histone deacetylase,...

Azimuths and Bearings

Azimuths and bearings are essential concepts in surveying, providing methods to express the direction of a line relative to a meridian. Azimuths refer to the clockwise angle measured from the north end of a reference meridian to the given line, ranging from zero to 360 degrees. This method gives a comprehensive directional reference within a full 360-degree circle, making it a straightforward way to communicate direction in various fields, including navigation, cartography, and...

Bearing Stress

Bearing stress refers to the contact pressure between two separate bodies. To visualize this, imagine a bolt thrust through a plate. The bolt applies a force to the plate, which exerts an equal but opposite force back onto the bolt. This force isn't just a singular entity but a compilation of numerous smaller forces distributed across the contact surface between the bolt and the plate. Due to the intricacy of these microforces, an average value, known as bearing stress, is often used by...

Collar Bearings

Collar bearings are essential in various machines designed to support axial loads on rotating shafts. Depending on the specific application and requirements, they can be found with single or multiple collars. Consider a single collar bearing subjected to an axial load. The total bearing contact area is the region between the external radius and the internal radius of the collar. When the bearing is assumed to provide even support, the uniform normal pressure can be calculated by dividing the...

Spreading of Chromatin Modifications

The histone proteins in the nucleosomes are post-translationally modified (PTM) to increase or decrease access to DNA. The commonly observed PTMs are methylation, acetylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination of lysine amino acids in the histone H3 tail region. These histone modifications have specific meaning for the cell. Hence, they are called "histone code". The protein complex involved in histone modification is termed as "reader-writer" complex. Writers The writer is an enzyme that can...
