- Ökaryot hücrelerde çeşitli iç bölmeler bulunur.
 Membrana bağlı organeller, mikro-ortamlarda çok spesifik işlevlere izin verecek şekilde hem hücre içindeki sitoplazmadan hem hücre dışındaki ortamdan korunmuş olur.
 Örneğin, hücre çekirdeğine denetimli koşullar gerekir, bu sayede içindeki genlerde kesin ayarlamalar mümkün olur.
O yüzden iki kat membran ile sarılıdır.
 Buna, çekirdek zarfı adı verilir.
 Gözenekleri sayesinde moleküllerin, örneğin MRNA'ların giriş çıkışı kontrol edilebilir.
Ayrıca, bazı proteinlere yükseltgen ortam gerekir ve bunlar sitosolden ayrı tutulmalıdır, çünkü sitosol indirgen niteliktedir.

Ökaryotik bölümlendirme

Ökaryotik hücrelerin ayırt edici özelliklerinden biri, belirli işlevleri yerine getiren —çekirdek ve mitokondri gibi— zara bağlı organelleri içermeleridir.
