The Phragmoplast

Bitki hücreleri sert bir hücre duvarı ile çevrilidir, bu da hücrelerin dışarıdan büzülerek bölünmesini zorlaştırır. Mitoz sırasında kromozomlar ayrılır ve zıt kutuplara doğru hareket etmeye başlar. Kutuplarda, ayrılan kromozomların etrafında nükleer zarf oluşur ve iğcikler kaybolmaya başlar. Mitotik iğin kalan mikrotübülleri phragmoplast'ı oluşturur.
Phragmoplast mikrotübülleri polardır, artı uçları ekvator düzlemine yakın ve eksi uçları kutuplara yakındır.
Golgi cisimcikleri, motor proteinler tarafından mikrotübüller boyunca hücre merkezine taşınan küçük veziküller salgılar. Bu veziküller, yeni hücre duvarı sentezi için gerekli olan iki önemli bileşen olan polisakkaritler ve glikoproteinler ile doludur. Veziküllerin füzyonu, erken hücre plakası adı verilen disk benzeri bir yapı oluşturur.
Phragmoplast mikrotübülleri, hücre plakasının serbest kenarlarında başarılı bir şekilde rejenere edilir ve phragmoplast'ın plakayı yanal olarak uzatmasını sağlar. Yeni hücre plakası, M fazından önce prefaz bandı ile işaretlenen bölgedeki ana hücre duvarları ile birleşir. phragmoplast (frammoplasti)

Hücre bölünmesi organizmanın büyümesi ve gelişmesi için gereklidir. Hayvan hücrelerinde, merkezi iğ ve bununla ilişkili proteinler, sitokinezde önemli bir role sahip olan bir yapı olan orta gövdeyi oluşturur. Bitkilerde merkezi iğ, mikrotübüller, aktin ve diğer hücre bileşenleriyle birlikte sitokinez için gerekli olan fragmoplasta olgunlaşır. Sabit orta gövdeden farklı olarak fragmoplast merkezkaçlı olarak genişler ve sonunda yeni hücre duvarının oluşumuna yol açar. Olgun fragmoplast halka şeklindedir ve bir dış ön bölge, bir orta geçiş (transition) bölgesi ve bir iç yalıtım (lagging) bölgesi içerir. Ön bölgede sürekli olarak yeni mikrotübüller bir araya getirilmektedir. Mikrotübül çekirdeklenmesi, GCP1'den GCP6'ya kadar altı alt birim içeren γ-tubulin halka kompleksi (γ-TuRC) tarafından başlatılır. Ancak γ-TuRC mikrotübüllerle doğrudan etkileşime giremez; bu nedenle, mikrotübül etkileşimli bir protein kompleksi olan augmin, γ-TuRC'nin mikrotübüllere toplanmasına aracılık eder.
