Internal Pancreatic Stent

An internal pancreatic stent is a small hollow tube placed within the pancreatic duct to maintain an open pathway for pancreatic secretions when disease or intervention impairs drainage. During endoscopic or surgical placement, the stent spans a narrowed or obstructed segment; its lumen and structural support reduce duct blockage and help preserve flow, while temporary devices may later be removed or exchanged. In cancer research, internal pancreatic stents are relevant to studies of pancreatic tumors that compress or invade the duct, enabling investigation of obstruction-related complications, procedural management, and patient outcomes. They also provide a practical context for evaluating stent design, placement strategies, and treatment-supportive care.

Application of Simplified Stent-bridging Pancreaticogastrostomy in Open Pancreaticoduodenectomy

2026

Here, we present the stent-bridging pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) technique, which uses a stent to bridge the remnant pancreas to the stomach during open pancreaticoduodenectomy. The stent-bridging PG aims to simplify the anastomosis, achieve complete diversion of pancreatic juice, and minimize manipulation of the pancreatic remnant.

A model of stent implantation in mouse carotid artery is described. Compared to other similar methods, this procedure is very rapid, simple and accessible, offering the possibility to study in a convenient way the vascular wall reaction to different drug-eluting stents and the molecular mechanisms of restenosis.
