Alternating Copolymer

An alternating copolymer is a polymer whose chain contains two different monomer units in a regular sequence, typically represented as –A–B–A–B–, giving it properties distinct from random, block, or homopolymer structures. It forms when the relative reactivities of the growing polymer chain and the two monomers favor cross-propagation, so each added unit preferentially differs from the preceding unit; reaction conditions and monomer interactions can influence this sequence control. In chemistry, alternating copolymers help researchers relate molecular architecture to thermal, mechanical, optical, and chemical behavior. Their controlled composition supports the design of materials for coatings, membranes, electronic components, and other applications requiring predictable performance.

2016

The key steps of living anionic polymerization of phenyl glycidyl ether (PheGE) on methoxy-polyethylene glycol (mPEG-b-PPheGE) are described. The resulting block copolymer micelles (BCMs) were loaded with doxorubicin 14% (wt%) and sustained release of drug over 4 days under physiologically relevant conditions was obtained.

Synthesis of Ligand-free CdS Nanoparticles within a Sulfur Copolymer Matrix

2016

Herein we present a method to synthesize ligand-free cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles based on a unique sulfur copolymer. The sulfur copolymer operates as a high temperature solvent and a sulfur source during the nanoparticle synthesis and stabilizes the nanoparticles after the reaction.

Solid-state Graft Copolymer Electrolytes for Lithium Battery Applications

2013

Lithium ion batteries employ flammable and volatile organic electrolytes that are suitable for ambient temperature applications. A safer alternative to organic electrolytes are solid polymer batteries. Solid polymer batteries operate safely at high temperatures (>120 °C), thus making them applicable to high temperature applications such as deep oil drilling and hybrid electric vehicles. This paper will discuss (a) the polymer synthesis, (b) the polymer conduction mechanism, and (c) provide...

We present a facile method to fabricate a biodegradable gelatin-based drug release platform that is magneto-thermally responsive. This was achieved by incorporating superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylamide) within a spherical gelatin micro-network crosslinked by genipin, in conjunction with an alternating magnetic field application system.
