Asymmetrical Molecules

Asymmetrical molecules are chemical structures that lack a balanced arrangement of atoms or symmetry elements, giving them distinct three-dimensional shapes and chemical properties. This asymmetry often arises when atoms or functional groups occupy different spatial positions around a central atom, producing chiral molecules that can exist as non-superimposable mirror-image enantiomers. Enantiomers may interact differently with polarized light, catalysts, biological receptors, and other chiral environments. Understanding molecular asymmetry is therefore essential in organic and medicinal chemistry, where controlling stereochemistry influences reaction pathways, drug activity, selectivity, and the design of materials with specialized properties.

Here, we present a protocol to quantify precise stepping in rodents. Cortical and the spinal central pattern generator signals are required for precise foot-placement during obstructed locomotion. We report here the novel constrained walking task that directly examines precise stepping behavior.

Rotation of Asymmetric Top

By definition, a spherically symmetric body has the same moment of inertia about any axis passing through its center of mass. This situation changes if there is no spherical symmetry. Since most rigid bodies are not spherically symmetric, these require special treatment. The relationship between the angular momentum of any rigid body and its angular velocity, both of which are vectors, involves the moment of inertia. The moment of inertia is a scalar quantity only for spherically symmetric...

We describe a protocol to observe and analyze cell rolling trajectories on asymmetric receptor-patterned substrates. The resulting data are useful for engineering of receptor-patterned substrates for label-free cell separation and analysis.

Asymmetric Lipid Bilayer

Biological membranes show uneven distribution of different types of lipids in the inner and outer layers, resulting in transverse asymmetric membranes. The treatment of the erythrocyte membrane with the enzyme phospholipase confirmed the asymmetric nature of the lipid bilayer. The enzyme hydrolyzes lipids into fatty acids and hydrophilic groups. The phospholipase acts only on the outer layer of the membrane, while the inner layer remains intact. The phospholipase treatment resulted in 80%...

Complete Information and Asymmetric Information: Meaning

Complete information means all participants in a transaction know all relevant details. For example, in perfect competition, both buyers and sellers know about the availability of alternative products, product prices, the number of competitors, and the quality of the products. However, in real markets, the participants usually have different levels of information, which leads to a market environment of asymmetric information.Asymmetric information occurs when one party in a market transaction...
