Gas Dispersion Tube

A gas dispersion tube is a laboratory device that introduces a gas into a liquid as small, distributed bubbles, making gas–liquid contact more efficient. In chemistry, gas enters through the tube and passes through a porous or fritted tip, where it breaks into fine bubbles that increase interfacial surface area and promote mixing, dissolution, or chemical reaction. Gas dispersion tubes are used for sparging, gas absorption, reaction control, and purging solutions with inert gases such as nitrogen. Their design and operating conditions influence bubble size, mass transfer, and the effectiveness of processes including gas washing and solution deoxygenation.

Ideal Gas Law - Concepts

Derivation of the Ideal Gas Law Gases are a fundamental state of matter. A gas is a collection of molecules that have a significant distance between their molecules. Due to this distance, colorless gases are invisible to the human eye and are studied using four measurable parameters: pressure (P), volume (V), number of moles (n), and temperature (T). The ideal gas law is a mathematical equation that relates all of these parameters. It is a combination of several different laws that describe the...

2025

Here, we present a protocol to adapt the Taylor dispersion experiment to the microscale using microchannels fabricated in-house with a desktop craft cutter. The experimental platform can be used to compute the diffusion coefficient of single-species passive tracers and to visualize multispecies ion interaction and separation.

Distribution and Dispersion

Ecology is the study of how organisms interact with their environment and with one another. An important aspect of ecology is understanding where species are found and how individuals are distributed within those areas. The geographic range of a species refers to the total area where its members are located, while dispersion describes the pattern of spacing of individuals within that range.Geographic Range and Dispersion PatternsWithin a species’ geographic range, individuals may be distributed...

Source: Michael G. Benton and Kerry M. Dooley, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Gas absorbers are used to remove contaminants from gas streams. Multiple designs are used to accomplish this objective1. A packed bed column uses gas and liquid streams running counter to each other in a column packed with loose packing materials, such as ceramics, metals, and plastics, or structured packing1. The packed bed uses surface area created by the packing to...
