Xenon Arc Lamp

A xenon arc lamp is a high-intensity light source that produces broad-spectrum radiation by sustaining an electrical arc through pressurized xenon gas, making it valuable for controlled illumination in chemistry and materials research. When a voltage ionizes the gas between two electrodes, the resulting plasma emits continuous ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light that resembles natural sunlight. Xenon arc lamps provide stable illumination for UV-visible spectroscopy, photochemical reactions, fluorescence measurements, and solar-simulation experiments. Their tunable filters and intense output help researchers investigate light-driven reaction pathways, evaluate photosensitive materials, and calibrate optical instruments under reproducible conditions.

2012

The production of hyperpolarized xenon by means of spin exchange optical pumping (SEOP) is described. This method yields a ~10000-fold enhancement of the nuclear spin polarization of Xe-129 and has applications in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. Examples of gas phase and solution state experiments are given.

Validation of Hyperbaric Pressure System with Xenon Anesthesia for Drosophila melanogaster

2026

Gases that seem harmless at atmospheric pressure can induce behaviors like narcosis under hyperbaric conditions. Conventional hyperbaric pressure chambers are costly and labor-intensive. This study presents a straightforward, low-cost method for examining xenon's effects on Drosophila melanogaster at moderate pressures below 4 atm.

Arc Length Function

2026

The arc length function represents the total distance traveled along a smooth curve measured from a fixed starting point to a variable endpoint. For curves that are continuous and differentiable, arc length provides a precise way to quantify distance when straight-line approximations are insufficient. To derive arc length, the curve is divided into many small segments. Each segment is approximated by a straight line whose length depends on the horizontal and vertical changes over that interval.

Arc Length of a Curve

2026

In engineering applications like roller coaster design, cable installation, and railway construction, determining the precise length of a curved path is essential. These paths are rarely straight and often follow smooth, continuous curves that require accurate measurement for effective planning. To estimate the length of a curve, the path is initially divided into small segments. Each segment is approximated by a straight line connecting two nearby points on the curve. The sum of these linear...

Arc Length of Space Curves

Arc length represents the total distance traveled along a curve in space. For a moving object such as a helicopter, the path can be modeled by a vector-valued position function\begin{equation*}\mathbf{r}(t)=\langle x(t),y(t),z(t)\rangle\end{equation*}where t denotes time. Unlike displacement, which measures only the straight-line distance between two points, arc length accounts for every change in direction along the trajectory. To calculate arc length, the interval of motion is divided into...
