Forward Flexion Test

The Forward Flexion Test is a clinical screening maneuver used to assess spinal alignment and detect visible asymmetry, particularly in suspected scoliosis. During the examination, the patient bends forward with the arms relaxed, allowing gravity to accentuate rib prominence or trunk imbalance caused by vertebral rotation and lateral curvature. Clinicians compare both sides of the back and may use a scoliometer to quantify trunk rotation, although the test alone cannot confirm a diagnosis or determine curve severity. Its low cost and simplicity make it useful in physical examinations, school screening, and decisions about further evaluation or imaging.

This protocol presents a cadaveric study of a wireless sensor used in medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. The protocol includes the installation of an angle measuring device, standardized Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty osteotomy, preliminary assessment of flexion-extension balance, and application of the sensor to measure flexion-extension gap pressure.

Pain assessment in anesthetized patients who cannot communicate with the outside world in any way remains challenging despite the development of innovative objective pain evaluation tools. In this project, the pupillary dilation reflex and the nociception flexion reflex are assessed in critically ill, mechanically ventilated adult patients.

Here, we present a protocol to describe a minimally invasive technique for knee joint immobilization in a rat model. This reproducible protocol, basing on muscle-gap separation modus and the mini-incision skill, is suitable for studying the underlying molecular mechanism of acquired joint contracture.

We describe a new ultrasound-based vector tissue Doppler imaging technique to measure muscle contraction velocity, strain and strain rate with sub-millisecond temporal resolution during dynamic activities. This approach provides complementary measurements of dynamic muscle function and could lead to a better understanding of mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal disorders.
