Film Casting

Film casting is a manufacturing method for producing thin, uniform polymer films by depositing a polymer melt or solution onto a flat surface, making it important for engineered materials and functional surfaces. In solution casting, the polymer is dissolved in a solvent, spread at a controlled thickness, and dried so solvent evaporation leaves a continuous film; melt casting instead uses heat and cooling to solidify the polymer. Engineers use film casting to fabricate packaging materials, membranes, coatings, and flexible electronic components while controlling thickness, morphology, mechanical properties, and barrier performance. The method also supports laboratory-scale materials development and process optimization.
