Integrative Medicine

Integrative medicine combines conventional medical care with evidence-informed complementary approaches to address the whole person, including biological, behavioral, social, and environmental factors that influence health. It relies on shared decision-making and coordinated care, matching therapies to patient needs while evaluating benefits, risks, and interactions with standard treatments. In medicine, this framework may incorporate nutrition, mindfulness, physical activity, acupuncture, or other nonpharmacologic interventions alongside medications or procedures when appropriate. By emphasizing prevention, self-management, and therapeutic relationships, integrative medicine can support symptom relief, quality of life, and more coordinated clinical care.

2017

Here, we present the preparation of an er-xian decoction (EXD) in four steps—soaking, decoction, filtration, and concentration—and demonstrate the administration of a prepared EXD-containing serum to rats. These methods are applicable to the in vivo and in vitro study of herbal decoctions such as traditional Chinese medicines.

2026

Microorganisms play a fundamental role in vaccine development, gene therapy, and therapeutic production. Their biological properties are harnessed to advance medicine and public health. Beyond immunization, microorganisms contribute to gut health, antibiotic synthesis, and genetic disease treatment.Live Attenuated and Inactivated VaccinesLive attenuated vaccines, such as the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, utilize weakened forms of pathogens to closely resemble natural infections.

Integration by Parts: Indefinite Integrals

2026

Integration by parts is a fundamental technique in calculus for evaluating integrals involving the product of two functions. It is particularly useful when direct integration is not feasible. The method is based on the product rule for differentiation, which states that the derivative of a product equals the derivative of the first function times the second, plus the first function times the derivative of the second. By integrating this identity and rearranging terms, the integration by parts...

In this video, we show a procedure for an accurate biolistic delivery of reagents into live tissue with a novel miniature gene gun. We are knocking down the expression of the axon guidance molecule Netrin in leech embryos by delivering molecules of dsRNA into the ventral body wall and ganglia of single segments.
