Dark Blood Mri

Dark-blood MRI is a magnetic resonance imaging technique that suppresses signal from flowing blood, making vessel walls and nearby brain structures easier to assess than on conventional bright-blood images. It typically uses blood-suppression preparations, such as double-inversion recovery, to reduce the signal of moving spins while preserving contrast from stationary tissues and vessel-wall abnormalities. In neuroscience, this approach supports evaluation of intracranial atherosclerosis, aneurysms, vasculitis, dissection, and other cerebrovascular disorders. By improving visualization of vessel-wall thickening, plaque, inflammation, or structural injury, dark-blood MRI can complement angiographic imaging and strengthen research into the mechanisms and clinical consequences of cerebrovascular disease.

2025

Start with a human patient with cerebral vasculitis, which causes inflammation and increased permeability of blood vessels in the brain.Place the patient's head inside the radiofrequency, or RF, coil of a magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, machine.Initiate magnetic resonance angiography, or MRA, which uses RF pulses to image blood flow.Protons in flowing blood generate strong signals, making blood vessels appear bright, while weak signals from stationary tissues result in a dark...

Functional Neuroimaging Using Ultrasonic Blood-brain Barrier Disruption and Manganese-enhanced MRI

A technique is described for broadly opening the blood-brain barrier in the mouse using microbubbles and ultrasound. Using this technique, manganese can be administered to the mouse brain. Because manganese is an MRI contrast agent that accumulates in depolarized neurons, this approach enables imaging of neuronal activity.

Dark Triad and Person Perception

2025

Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et al. (2014) explored...
