Q1: Does an object accelerate when moving at constant speed in a straight line?
No. An object moving at constant speed in a straight line experiences no acceleration because velocity remains unchanged. Acceleration occurs only when velocity changes in magnitude, direction, or both. On curved paths or when speed changes, acceleration is present because the velocity vector is changing.
Q2: Why does an object on a curved path accelerate even at constant speed?
On a curved path, the direction of motion continuously changes, which means the velocity vector is constantly changing direction. Since acceleration exists whenever velocity changes—whether in speed or direction—an object moving at constant speed on a curve is always accelerating.
