Finding the Center of Gravity

In a uniform gravitational field, the center of gravity of a body is the same as its center of mass. However, under varying gravitational fields, the center of gravity is towards the stronger field, while the center of mass remains the same.
To determine the center of gravity for any irregular-shaped object, pivot the object in such a way that it can move or swing freely when suspended from points A, B, and C.
First, suspend the object from point A and hang a plumb line. When the plumb line comes to the equilibrium position, mark the point as X and draw a line AX on the object.
Repeat the same procedure by suspending the object from B and mark the line as BY. Similarly, suspend the object from C and mark the line as CZ.
The point P, where lines AX, BY, and CZ intersect, gives the center of gravity of the irregular-shaped object.
