Using the optokinetic response to study visual function of zebrafish

Optokinetic response has been widely used to assess the visual functions of larval zebrafish. Nevertheless, the standard protocol for larval fish is not yet readily applicable in adults1-5. Here, we introduce how to measure the OKR of adult zebrafish using a new protocol which is established in our lab.
Hi everyone. My name is Mean Jing, and I'm from USTC. As we know that the Opto kinetic response, or OKR for short, is a behavior test that an animal moves its eyes to follow a grading.
Moving around it. This behavior has been widely used. Assess the visual functions of larval zebra fish.
However, the method using the standard prodigal to fix the larval fish is not readily applicable for adults. So in this video, we're gonna show you a new prodigal that makes it possible to record the adult OKR. Then we collect the eggs and transfer them to a glass dish. We use meth cellose Solution to fix the larva fish. The solution must be cooled down quickly after being heated.
So we put it in ice water and gently shake it until it becomes transparent. Now put 20 milliliter methylcellulose in a dish. Make sure that There is no air bubble in the solution.
Put the larvae in a row in the solution. Add a tiny one microliter air bubble in the view so that you Can see the reflection of the grading. That's the Demonstration of the OKR behavior of wild type zebra fish larvae.
In the end, we're gonna show you how to do the OMR test for adult zebra fish. First of all, catch a fish And put it in a fish chamber. Now put the fish chamber in place.
Then install a white cylinder at the center of the chamber so that fish Cannot pass the center before the test. It is better to let the fish adept in this lighting condition for one minute. Okay, that's the demonstration of the OMR test for adult zebra fish.
