Energy from Nonrenewable Resources
Energy drives our daily lives, keeping our homes warm, cars moving, and industries running. But where does it all come from?
Most of it comes from nonrenewable resources like coal, oil, natural gas, and uranium. These resources take millions of years to form and cannot be replaced once used.
Fossil fuels are burned for energy. Coal mainly powers electricity plants, oil fuels vehicles, and natural gas is used for heating, cooking, and power generation.
Although fossil fuels provide energy quickly and efficiently, burning them releases air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, along with greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, which contribute to climate change.
Nuclear energy, another nonrenewable resource, comes from splitting radioactive nuclei, such as uranium atoms, in a process called nuclear fission.
It generates massive amounts of energy without air pollution, but produces radioactive waste that must be stored safely for thousands of years.
As these resources run out and their environmental impact grows, it is essential to shift toward cleaner, renewable energy sources for a more sustainable future.
