Aquatic biomes cover a considerable part of Earth and support diverse plant and animal life. Based on their water salinity, these biomes are divided into two types.
The first type is freshwater biomes, which contain less than 1% salt. These are standing bodies of water, including lakes, ponds, and wetlands.
Ponds, being smaller, provide habitats for frogs and aquatic plants like water lilies. Lakes, particularly deep ones, support fish, amphibians, and plankton at different depths.
Wetlands, such as swamps and marshes, sustain various aquatic plants.
Rivers and streams, on the other hand, are flowing bodies of water. They transport and sustain diverse organisms as they flow toward larger bodies of water.
